Most people do not get enough sunlight exposure on a daily basis to sufficiently store up their vitamin D. Try adding some vitamin D abundant foods to your diet to make sure your have enough vitamin D in your system. Foods with Vitamin D are fatty fish (salmon, tuna and cod, for example), cod liver oil, egg yolk, mushrooms and fortified products, including milk, yogurt and orange juice. The recommended daily value of vitamin D from foods is is 800 IU (20 mcg).
Make sure you get it checked at your Annual check up with your Doctor to see if you need to an additional supplement of D3 to have your levels between the acceptable levels of 30-100ng/ml… OPTIMAL levels may be between 40-70 ng/ml.
Your doctor can order a blood test to measure your levels of vitamin D in your body.
